About Axe Valley Vets

Axe Valley Veterinary Practice was founded in the Wedmore area in the 1950's moving to its present location in Blackford within the 1970's. We pride ourselves on our dedication to serving the local community in a friendly, personal and flexible way. Over the years we have expanded to cover a wide area of Somerset from Blagdon to Bridgwater with branch surgeries at Cheddar, Wells, and Woolavington.

We are a true mixed veterinary practice, dealing with all species of domestic and farm animals. Our vets each have different specialist interests and skills, offering a breadth of expertise and knowledge. They are supported by a team of qualified (registered) nurses (RVN), student nurses (SVN), and nursing assistants.

Our Veterinary Practice provides a guaranteed high level of facilities and services including surgical / imaging facilities, complementary medicine and a full out of hours service covered by our own Veterinary Surgeons. All farm species are treated - cows, pigs, sheep, goats, alpacas and horses along with their pet equivalents and more exotic species.

A quality service needs quality staff, to this end we place great emphasis on training and education, with all staff attending regular courses, tutorials, and conferences.

We also feel it is important to invest in the future. We encourage all our staff to attend various courses to continue their professional development. Our nursing staff are encouraged to study the Level 3 Diploma Veterinary Nurse Training, or Veterinary Care Assistants qualifications.  In addition to this we are a foster practice for the University of Bristol Veterinary School, passing on our vast experience to the next generation of Veterinary Surgeons.
