What to do in an emergency? feature

What to do in an emergency?

  • DO - CALL THE NORMAL PRACTICE PHONE NUMBER 01934 712229 TO SPEAK TO A VET FIRST

  • DO NOT - ARRIVE AT THE PRACTICE UNTIL YOU HAVE SPOKEN TO THE VET AS THE VET MAY BE AWAY FROM THE PRACTICE OR OUT ON ANOTHER CALL.

What happens when I call the vet?

  • When you call the surgery outside of normal opening hours your call will be diverted to our answering service.
  • The answering service will take all the necessary details, these will then be passed to the duty vet who will contact you directly.
  • When the Vet calls you back they will ask you questions about your pet's condition performing triage. Please make sure that the person that answers the call is aware of all the details of your pet's problem and are able to answer the vet's questions.
  • If the vet feels that your pet's condition is urgent but not immediately life threatening, they will advise you of the costs involved and give you the opportunity to decide whether you feel your pet should be seen urgently or if your pet can wait until the surgery opens.
  • If your pet has an immediate or life threatening emergency, be prepared to make some immediate decisions and listen carefully to the advice given to you by the duty Vet.
  • Should your pet need to be seen immediately, the vet will request that you meet them at the Blackford branch as they do not carry paramedic type equipment in their vehicles. Our Blackford branch is fully equipped to deal with every emergency, this is why they will prefer to see you at Blackford rather than one of our less equipped branch surgeries.

Should you receive advice from the duty vet and they do not need to see your pet, then no charges will be made to you
