Support Staff



Alice Smith - Business Manager

Alice joined the Reception team at Blackford in October 2012, after working on various equine yards.

Alice has a interest in both small and large animals, in her spare time Alice is a member of Wedmore Young Farmers, and enjoys spending time with her border terrier Flora. 

Rowena Hann - Head Receptionist

Rowena joined the team at Blackford at the beginning of 2015 as a full time receptionist. Rowena has a keen interest in both large and small animals, having worked on mixed farms in the past. Rowena has her own flock of sheep and border collie named Flo.

In her spare time Rowena is a keen member of the local young farmers club and enjoys spending time on her family farm.

 

Carol Quantrill - Large Animal Administrator

Carol is our large animal administrator and has been with the practice since 2001.

 

Helen Bird - Receptionist

Helen began working in a local Veterinary Hospital in 1989 after leaving the Kings of Wessex, she then spent 2 years in a Veterinary Hospital in Weston Super Mare before joining the Axe Valley reception team in 1991. She has had 2 breaks in 2004 and 2006 to have children, but has returned as a part time member of the team working at our new Cheddar surgery with Jacqui Murray and Lynda Moore.

In her spare time Helen likes to spend time with her 2 children and 3 Jack Russell's, walking in the Mendip Hills and around the Cheddar area, as walking is her passion.

 

Jacqui Murray - Receptionist

Jacqui joined Axe Valley in 2002 as part of our reception team, covering mainly Blackford and Cheddar, but on occasion she covered at our Berrow Branch. In the early days she would also help our nursing team.

As Cheddar became busier and the opening hours increased, Jacqui became the main stay of the Cheddar branch, she has helped to expand the branch and moved it to its new premises at Saxon Court. Along with Helen, Jacqui is always delighted to welcome all clients old and new.

Jacqui's spare time is occupied with family and friends, but she is also kept busy by her 2 Chocolate Labrador's Tizzie and Winnie.

 

Liz Gay - Receptionist

Liz has been with Axe Valley since we moved to our present location in St Cuthbert Street Wells in 2000.

Liz is a senior member of our reception team and oversees the day to day running of the Wells branch where she has been instrumental in building a loyal client base.

In her spare time Liz enjoys walking with her dog Jazzie the Cocker Spaniel.

 

Jackie Henley - Receptionist

Jackie joined our team in 2006 after over 19 years as a medical receptionist in the Weston Super Mare area. Her love of animals prompted the switch from human to animal care and her daughter is now a Veterinary Surgeon working in North Wales.

As with all our reception team Jackie aims to give all our clients and their pets individual attention, to make what can be a stressful time a little easier.

Jackie has 5 rescue dogs called Jamie, Ellie, Gemma, Cara and Pip.

 

Sharon Organ - Receptionist

Sharon joined our reception team in 2008, having spent the previous 10 years at Heavens Gate Animal Rescue. She can be found at either our Wells or Blackford surgeries.

In her spare time Sharon loves to travel and has spent time in India and other exotic places she also helps out at local animal rescue charities.

Sharon enjoys spending time with her rescue dogs Kodi and Leo the german shepherds, Ozzie the Pomeranian cross, Smirny the cat and Popeye the Senegal Parrot.

  

Lynda Moore - Receptionist

Lynda has recently joined Axe Valley to help assist the reception staff with cover at Cheddar but can also be found at our branch surgeries when needed. She has many years of admin experience and has worked in veterinary practice in the past.

 

 

Dixie Gleeson

Dixie has recently joined the reception team here at Axe Valley. Dixie has always had a keen interest in horses and small animals. Dixie lives in the local area on a small holding with her two horses Bazil and Arion.

In her spare time Dixie enjoys taking Arion and Bazil to local shows and spending time with Wilma her Wheaton Terrier.

 

Fiona Pople

Fiona joined Axe Valley in April 2016 as part of the reception team in Blackford. She previously worked at a small animal practice for 9 years as a veterinary nursing assistant. She is kept busy in her spare time with her two young children, two horses and her Cocker spaniel Bella.

 

Ellie Stevens

Ellie joined the reception team at Blackford in March 2016. Ellie has an interest in small animals and in her spare time she enjoys taking the family dogs for walks.
