How We Can Help Axe Valley Vets Veterinary Practice - vets caring for animals across Somerset based at Blackford, Wells, Cheddar & Berrow.

Home Visits Axe Valley Vets Veterinary Practice - vets caring for animals across Somerset based at Blackford, Wells, Cheddar & Berrow.
Veterinary Home Visits are available when necessary. We are happy to visit pets at home, but we cannot bring all our surgery equipment with us and therefore the examination may not be as thorough as we would normally like. Some pets are more difficult to handle at home as they are protecting you. We will gladly discuss this with you when we make your appointment.

Axe Valley Vets Surgical Treatments Veterinary Practice - vets caring for animals across Somerset based at Blackford, Wells, Cheddar & Berrow.
Veterinary Admissions wards are centrally heated day and night. All pets receive personal nursing care. You are very welcome to visit your pet and discuss progress as often as you wish, and we will make every effort to make your pets stay as comfortable as possible. We understand how worrying it is to leave your pet, so do ask any questions as they arise and let us know of your pets likes and dislikes. Veterinary Operations are performed under sterile conditions in theatre, with full monitoring during the op and recovery period. Modern anaesthetics are very safe, but we offer blood tests before surgery to detect any problems that may increase the anaesthetic risk.

Firework Phobia Axe Valley Vets Veterinary Practice - vets caring for animals across Somerset based at Blackford, Wells, Cheddar & Berrow.
As vets and dog owners ourselves, we are only too well aware of the distress caused to pets every year by fireworks. Evidence suggests that 50% or more of pet-owning households have a pet that is afraid of fireworks: it is a huge problem that is a distressing situation for owners and pets alike. For many years, the only recourse we had was sedative and tranquillising drugs. Their use is undesirable (though short-term sedation can be helpful) and with the prolonged firework season these days we cannot sedate our pets for months on end. We can offer you a strategy that can help reduce your pets fears, using a combination of behavioural modification, sound desensitisation, and pheromonatherapy.

Firework Phobia - Things that go bump in the night Axe Valley Vets Veterinary Practice - vets caring for animals across Somerset based at Blackford, ...
An environment cluttered with the noises, smells, belongings and uncertainties of human lives can be very disturbing for the dogs that share our homes. Anxiety is not a condition exclusive to people. It is now appreciated that it is a very real and debilitating condition for dogs too and this has led to an exciting new field of study. One of the most fascinating and revolutionary developments to materialise in the fight against stress and phobias experienced by pets, is the identification and use of pheromone therapy. Of special significance is the use of canine pheromones in the treatment of firework phobia.
