About Us

We offer a friendly, personal and professional service

Over 65 years of caring for your animals

Axe Valley Veterinary Practice was founded in the Wedmore area in the 1950's moving to its present location in Blackford within the 1970's. We pride ourselves on our dedication to serving the local community in a friendly, personal and flexible way. Over the years we have expanded to cover a wide area of Somerset from Blagdon to Bridgwater with branch surgeries at Cheddar, Wells and Woolavington.

High quality services and facilities

Our Veterinary Practice provides a guaranteed high level of service with surgical and imaging facilities, complementary medicine and a full out-of-hours service covered by our own veterinary surgeons. All domestic species are treated - dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and more exotic species.

Friendly, experienced staff

A quality service needs quality staff, to this end we place great emphasis on training and education, with all staff attending regular courses, tutorials, and conferences.

We also feel it is important to invest in the future. We encourage all our staff to attend various courses to continue their professional development. Our nursing staff are encouraged to study the Level 3 Diploma Veterinary Nurse Training, or Veterinary Care Assistants qualifications. In addition to this we are a foster practice for the University of Bristol Veterinary School, passing on our vast experience to the next generation of veterinary surgeons.

Care of Inpatients

Our hospitalisation facilities are based at our Blackford premises. Should your pet require overnight or weekend hospitalisation, they will be cared for by a dedicated small animal vet and nurse.

Staff members do not routinely stay on the premises however your pet will be attended to at regular intervals, as frequently as their condition dictates. Should their condition be life-threatening and/or serious enough to require constant monitoring, staff will discuss appropriate options and costs with you.
